The students did centers to review the Dewey Decimal system and location of fiction and nonfiction books and also to practice alphabetizing up to the third letter to help them location Fiction books by playing the sticks and stones game. This reviewed and finished some of the standards we did last month.
Standard 1.1 Knows library procedures for circulation and equipment
1.3 Understands difference between fiction and nonfiction
1.4.1 Understands the ten major classes of the Dewey decimal system
1.4.2 Uses dewey Decimal system to locate books independently
1.5.1 Learns that fiction section is arranged alphabetically by authors last name
1.5.2 Identifies call number in fiction section as authors last name alphabetized to the first letter
1.5.3 and 1.5.4 alphabetizes to the second and third letter to locate books by call number.
Rooms 39, 41/36 completed ISAFE Internet Safety Units on Community, Security and Safety and also Email netiquette. They did surveys online surveys on the ISAFE site

Rooms 39,40, 42, and 36 We also are learning about and reviewing reference books that we learned about in grade one such as the Encyclopedia. ( Standard 1.3.9 locates and knows general contents of the reference section). We are practicing finding information from various article in the Heinemann First Encyclopedia and answering questions in complete sentences. (standard 1.2.4 Knows the general organization of an encyclopedia)
